The Pelican™ 1440 case has 2 latches unique to Pelican™ Products. The latches utilize what’s called a double throw feature. When the 1440 is shut it will remain shut in transit until you’re ready from the contents inside. An automatic pressure equalizer built into the Pelican™ 1440 case will allow air to flow freely in and out, but nothing else such as water. The benefit of this feature is that the 1440 case can be easily opened in high altitudes eliminating the vacuum effect.
